Roma identify Romanian as Castan replacement

As reported today by Il Corriere dello Sport, Pietro Chiodi and Roma will meet today to discuss Mihai Balasa, who is currently on loan at Crotone and next season could be moved elsewhere to allow him to develop more. Chiodi is also the agent for Vlad Chiriches and is expected to meet with Walter Sabatini in the coming days to also discuss the Tottenham defender’s future. The London based club are asking for an initial €2 million and another €6 million in the summer as part of a compulsory clause to buy Chiriches. Roma are reportedly in a rush to finalise a deal with Spurs for the 25 year old center back, so as to have him available for the Derby della Capitale in six days time.

The crux lies elsewhere, however. It is still unclear whether Leandro Castan, who continues to express affection for Roma, will be able to return to the field this season. The Giallorossi naturally cannot wait for the final say on the condition of the Brazilian defender but Sabatini and Rudi Garcia intend to meet with Castan to get an idea of his feelings and only after that will the management take the necessary steps. If Roma failed to land Chiriches – although at this point it seems like all parties want a deal to go through- then Sabatini will look to the likes of Ezequiel Muñoz (who Sabatini brought to Europe when he was the Sporting Director of Palermo) or Eder Alvarez Balanta of River Plate, who Sabatini has admired for a while now.
