In a match filled with missed opportunities, Roma were able to hang on in Genova to claim an important 3 points and climb to within a point of Juventus at the top of the Serie A table.

The Giallorossi certainly looked to be the livelier side as Rudi Garcia’s men spent the majority of the first 45 minutes camped in Genoa’s half and controlling possession. The balance of the match completely changed with Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin brought down Radja Nainggolan in the area and was sent off. Adem Ljajic stepped up to take the penalty but it was saved as this would be one of the several chances Roma would miss throughout the afternoon.

Just minutes after wasting their best opportunity of the afternoon, Radja Nainggolan fired home and put Roma up 1-0 after an incredible volleyed goal as the Giallorossi entered the break up 1-0 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Roma seemed to take their foot off the pedal in the second half. Alessandro Florenzi, Miralem Pjanic, Gervinho, and Adem Ljajic all have notable opportunities to earn a second goal but they couldn’t find the back of the net.

As the match looked set to end, Genoa earned an incorrect corner kick and Tomás Rincón buried a goal to draw it even at 1-1, but, to Roma’s delight, he was correctly flagged offside.

Roma face Milan next week and will be without Davide Astori and Miralem Pjanic, who are suspended due to yellow card accumulation.
