Roma suffered a blow to their Scudetto hopes as they fell to Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo 2-0 this afternoon. Rudi Garcia’s men had a chance to take control of first place in the Serie A table but fell to Rafa Benitez’ club as they now look forward to their difficult Champions League encounter in Munich against Bayern.

Napoli started out quickly as Gonzalo Higuain volleyed a goal past Roma goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis after Lorenzo Insigne’s shot was saved by De Sanctis but fell right to the feet of the Argentine striker.

Roma labored throughout the match to try and score, but were unable to knock one past Rafael and the Napoli defense, which was touted as one of the worst defenses one the “top” clubs in Italy.

Francesco Totti and Miralem Pjanic looked most likely to score for the Giallorossi but an 85th minute goal from Jose Callejon, the league’s top scorer, all but sealed Roma’s fate.
