It’s game-on in the Serie A championship. After a wild league night, Roma find themselves at the top of the Serie A thanks to their 2-0 win over Cesena and Juventus’ 1-0 loss in extra time to Genoa. Rudi Garcia’s men now stand at the top of the table and will travel to Naples on Saturday to take on Rafa Benitez and his Napoli team, who drew with Atalanta 1-1 in Bergamo.

Needing a win, the Giallorossi came out firing on Federico Agliardi’s goal and found themselves with the lead less than 10 minutes into the match — Ivorian winger Gervinho beat Francesco Renzetti off the dribble and sailed in a pass to Mattia Destro, who had an easy tap-in for his 4th goal of the season.

Roma continued to push the envelope but had their notable opportunities from Miralem Pjanic and Juan Iturbe saved by Agliardi, who was filling in for the suspended Nicola Leali.

It took Cesena almost 20 minutes until after the first half to find their first legitimate opportunity at a goal — as Hörður Björgvin Magnússon found substitute Huge Almeida open in Roma’s area, but Polish goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski saved comfortably, thwarting the Emilian’s only threat of the match.

Holding on to a 1-0 late into the match, midfielder Daniele De Rossi wrapped up the three points after hammering home from a corner kick and giving Roma a two goal victory over the newly promoted side.

Roma will now travel to Naples on Saturday for their match which kicks off at 15.00 CET.
