Benatia: “Roma is in my heart”

Today Bayern Munich released an official interview with ex-Roma player Mehdi Benatia about his thoughts and feelings with regards to returning to the Olimpico.

Could you have imagined a more beautiful return to your former club?
“It was something special for me to play against my old teammates. We (Bayern) played very well and the three points are important. I’m personally very satisfied, but at the same time I suffer a bit for my old friends: I’d be lying if I said that the club and the city are not in my heart. “

Did you talk to your former team mates?
“Yes, but of course they were all very disappointed. Hopefully Roma qualify from the group stage with us.”

Could believe what happened at the Olimpico?
“It was awesome. It was important that we got the victory and that we dealt with Roma with the necessary respect.”

Were you expecting a warmer welcome?
“Honestly, I heard only a few whistles. I was completely focused and I just wanted to do my best. Hopefully I’ve shown why the Bayern chose me. Thanks to the coach, Rummenigge and Sammer for the trust in me.”

What are the differences between Roma and Bayern?
“Roma play for the Scudetto, we play for the Champions League. Our system of play is also different. I just do what the coach tells me to and it is a great pleasure and an honor to play with the champions within our team. “

Did you celebrate the win?
“No, we have to think about the next game against Gladbach which will be important for the Bundesliga title. We have to stay focused.”
