Erik Lamela: I’m rooting for Roma

Erik Lamela spoke to Corriere dello Sport this morning as the former Roma man prepares for his second season with Tottenham.

Up until a few weeks ago, there was a possibility that you were coming back to Serie A…
“I read a lot of things in the papers and maybe there have been some inqueries or requests for information from some clubs, but I’ve never had either direct contact or doubts about my future.”

Have you been following Serie A?
“Last year I was only able to watch a few games on TV. I have many friends there, people to who I’m bound to and I wish the best. Also, the Italian is very difficult, I can tell you that because I’ve played there for two seasons.”

Has Roma remained in your heart?
“Of course, and in fact, I’m rooting for the Giallorossi to win the Scudetto. Last season they played great, but Juventus was really difficult to beat because they had impressive continuity in their performances. But this year…”

What about this year…
“I think that it might be the right time. Roma had an important transfer market, they have a great team and many players of undoubted value. I am convinced that they’ll fight to the end for the championship and win it. And then move forward in the Champions League, it’s a goal that the fans deserve.”
