Roma wasted little time in picking up where they left last season as the Giallorossi beat Vicenzo Montella’s men 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. The Giallorossi collect 3 points from the fixture and still leave Montella, a former Roma player, still without a win against his former club.

Rudi Garcia’s men dominated the opening 45 minutes as Roma were gifted a handful of chances as Gervinho and Francesco Totti were wide of the mark initially. Belgian Radja Nainggolan gave Roma the lead after a brilliant follow-up from a Neto save as the former Cagliari man smashed home the goal to give Roma a 1-0 lead entering the break.

La Viola showed much more in the second half. Montella’s men pressed Roma all over the pitch and created some issues for the Giallorossi. Josip Iličić came just centimeter’s away from finding the equalizer off of a free-kick, but he only managed to hit the post. Just minutes later, youngster Babacar found himself in the area with only Morgan De Sanctis to beat, but the former Napoli goalkeeper sprawled out and continued to stop Fiorentina from tying at 1-1.

As injury time approached, Roma found themselves more comfortable in possession and capped off the match with another goal as Radja Nainggolan picked out Gervinho’s run and the Ivorian slotted home past Neto.

The win gives Roma 3 points on the season, who will wait two weeks until their next match on 14 September as they travel to face newly promoted Empoli.
