Torosidis signs 3 year extension with Roma

Roma right-back Vasilis Torosidis spoke today at the team’s Austrian ritiro and confirmed he’s signed a 3 year extension with the club.

How was the World Cup? What does your future hold?
“Greece had a good World Cup. My future? It’s at Roma, I’ve signed for three years and I want to stay here because we’re a great team with big targets: I want to win something with this club.”

Are you ready to win silverware?
“We’ve got a strong squad with a lot of top players. We all want to win the Scudetto but it will be a tough season with some big games. We need to be ready to fight on all fronts.”

The Champions League…
“We hope to get through the group stage and then we’ll take it step by step.”

What are the goals for this season?
“The fans all think we’re a strong team and we also want to win the Scudetto: it won’t be easy as there are a number of good teams like Napoli, Juventus and Fiorentina. We’ll see how it goes. This season will be taxing: we will be involved in three competitions, Serie A, the Coppa Italia and Champions League. The players need to be ready. We all want to win something and our main goal is the Scudetto.”

Have you closed the gap on Juventus?
“I don’t want to talk about other teams: we’ve got a good side and a competitive squad. We want to win the Scudetto because Roma are a big club. We’ll see who comes out on top on the field.”

Ranieri is the new coach your country…
“It’s a great appointment because he’s worked with some top teams. I’ve spoken to him and he seems a nice man. We all want to qualify for Euro 2016 in France.”

What is your preferred role?
“My favorite position is right back but I’ll play on the left if the coach asks me to: my only aim is to help out the team.”

What about the future of Mehdi Benatia?
“Mehdi is a great footballer and a lovely guy. I want him to stay at the club but he hasn’t spoken to me about his future. He’s a professional and wants to win the Scudetto here at Roma too.”
