De Sanctis: “Roma has a great future”

Earlier today at Roma’s Austrian ritiro, Morgan De Sanctis addressed the media on a range of subjects.

Are Roma good enough to win the Scudetto this season?

“It’s nice to hear that people have those expectations of us but it’s up to us to work hard as a team. The club has done excellent business in the transfer market so far. We’ll see what happens between now and September 2nd when the window closes but I’m confident.”

Medhi Benatia?

“Medhi has been dedicated to the cause since the start of pre-season. Last season some fans were complaining that certain players had been sold but others joined who were right for the squad. You sometimes get situations where you have to make a sacrifice but you don’t always lose out: you can gain from the sacrifices.”

Next season’s expectations?

“I hope that my greatest joy is still to come and that we can achieve it this year. We have an intense season ahead of us and more games obviously require more energy. I’m fully focused on the task. Our team is set up to win and I hope this is the year that we can reap the rewards.”

Is the current squad too old?

“I’m getting on a bit and I can’t play forever but I’d like to retire after winning something important but the fans don’t need to worry, Roma has a great future ahead.”

The newly elected FIGC council?

I hope personal interests are put to one side in favor of the common good. I think it’s good that Roma is now completely in American hands. The club is building for the future in innovative ways.”
