Yedlin comments on transfer links

DeAndre Yedlin, the USA international who plays for the MLS outfit Seattle Sounders, has been closely linked to a move to Roma over the past week and admitted that he’s only focusing on his club at the moment. However, Sigi Schmid, his manager, admitted that a move to Europe may tempt the youngster.

“The rumors? I’m letting my representatives take care of that,” said Yedlin. “Right now I’m just focusing on Seattle and hopefully winning the MLS cup. The MLS is such a growing league. It’s becoming one of the top leagues in the world.”

“DeAndre is DeAndre,” said Schmid when asked about the rumors regarding Roma, “He’s got his feet pretty well on the ground, he’s pretty down to earth…I think the people who raised him have given him that guidance. [Yedlin staying] is better for the league. But by the same token, why does Pau Gasol play in the NBA? Why does [Manu] Ginobli play in the NBA? Because the league’s better than the leagues in their home countries. And there’s going to be certain players where it’s the right thing to do to go overseas.”
