Roma interested in Shakhtar winger

To satisfy Rudi Garcia, in the construction of a competitive Roma side, Walter Sabatini is working on several fronts and  taking decisive steps towards signing an attacking, wide midfielder.

In addition to looking for a left-back, there is also the desire to find a new winger. In the list of eligible candidates who have been rumored to be targets of Sabatini, it now seems the Sporting Director will focus all his attention Douglas Costa, the twenty-three year old Brazilian, currently playing for Shakhtar Donetsk . Garcia has repeatedly expressed his desire to sign a winger who can also score many goals and Costa fits the bill perfectly, during last season’s Ukrainian Premier League Costa netted 4 goals in 27 league appearances but did manage 2 goals in 6 Champions League games last campaign.

Shakhtar have slapped a 20 million price tag onto Costa and considering that he also earns about 2.5 million net per year, the deal could be difficult for Roma financially. The positive though is that Douglas Costa shares the same agent as both Dodo and Marquinhos and is therefore very familiar with Sabatini.

Roma still have two non-EU slots they can fill for the 2014/15 season but one will likely be filled by Marko Baša, from Lille. The other spot was seemingly going to be filled by Salih Uçan but reports in Italy suggest he will be sent on loan to another Italian club before joining Roma permanently.
