Roma ready to finalise Keita signing

According to Corriere dello Sport, there have been sightings of Seydou Keita in Rome over the last few days fueling speculation that the Mali international could be on the brink of joining AS Roma.

Keita is now 34 years old but is a player of great experience having won everything there is to win at club level during his four year spell at Barcelona. The Malian, who holds a French passport, is therefore an ideal signing considering Walter Sabatini’s remarks that Roma would look to replace the outgoing Rodrigo Taddei with a player of great European pedigree.

Before giving the final confirmation to Keita, Sabatini wants to explore the possibility of signing Lille’s Rio Mavuba,  another midfielder with great experience but a bit younger than Keita at 30 years of age. The difference lies in the fact that Keita is currently a free agent after Valencia chose not to renew his contract, while Mavuba has a contract that expires in 2015 and Lille would want a significant transfer fee for his services.
