Sky’s Paolo Assogna talks on Roma’s transfer window

Paolo Assogna, reporter for Sky Italia, gave a long interview to ilsussidiario.net in which he talked about the possible transfer moves that Roma may make this summer:

Yesterday, General Manager Mauro Baldissoni reiterated that the club will try not to give in to the larger clubs by selling the best players, the rumored offer from Chelsea for Medhi Benatia is 35 million but if they also included Romelu Lukaku could this cause the Roma management give in?
“It is assumed that Benatia is considered a fundamental leader for the squad. As long as the bids that are received are normal Roma will reject them. It would take an abnormal offer to make Roma consider selling him but for now, the Roma management has yet to receive any offers. If they receive such an offer, one of the executives will send a fax to Pallotta, who will then make a decision. To date, no one has negotiated with Roma, it is just dialogue between agents. ”

Even in the case of Destro, where there has been talk of a 30 million offer from Wolfsburg ?
“It’s a plausible offer because the Germans have that kind of money, but even in this case Roma, for the moment, has not received anything. The fact remains that Destro is not interested in this potential deal. ”

If Roma were to choose who to sacrifice, who would leave between Benatia and Destro?
“The economic conditions will have to be favorable as I said before. Let’s say that if the same offer came in for both, Roma would prefer to keep Benatia.”

At fullback, there is the idea of Kolarov, the dream of Filipe Luis and the potential of Santon. Who is first on the list?
“Kolarov interests Roma the most. The problem, however, is his high salary that he earns at Manchester City and that in all probability it will be increased after the recent title win.”

Staying on the Serbian theme, what are Roma planning to do with Adem Ljajic?
“That depends on the offers of the market. Garcia and the coaching staff are satisfied with Ljajic, maybe we expected a little bit more in general but we must say that after a few problems, mostly behavioral, the boy has found his continuity. There was the episode against Napoli, when he was lazy to track back and subsequently Garcia left him on the bench for a few games. That punishment seemingly worked.”

Nevertheless, the market rumors insist on the possible arrival of a winger like Juan Iturbe or Salomon Kalou…
“The Ivorian is the most plausible and pleasing to Garcia, who has already coached him. Iturbe would be ideal but his price-tag is considered to be excessive.”

Is this why Roma has given up?
“Absolutely not, because I know that at this moment Real Madrid has taken a step back. Roma do not waiver but the actual numbers will be very difficult to complete the deal,”

In recent months there has been much talk of Salih Uçan, the young Fenerbahce midfielder: is it still a possibility?
“Definitely, Sabatini is literally crazy about Uçan and recognizes his exceptional technical qualities. As in the case of Iturbe, any operation is challenged by the cost, because Fenerbahce knows that Uçan is being followed by big clubs.”

Leandro Paredes is one of the many young players who will come back from a loan spell: will he be promoted to the first team?
“It is possible for a player like Paredes who is already used to playing under pressure, he learned a lot at  Boca Juniors where he was the alternative to Riquelme.”
