More Updates on Astori

Yesterday, the news that Walter Sabatini and Cagliari’s Nicola Salerno are in advanced talks for center back Davide Astori were leaked. While Salerno denied that the Sardinian club were negotiating with the Giallorossi for the player, more updates have come in regarding the proposed deal.

First, Roma will pay an initial fee of €8m for the player and could pay an additional €2m in bonuses and Astori will sign a 4 year deal worth €1.5m per season. The most important update regarding the situation has been to Astori’s personal preference in destination. His girlfriend, Francesca Fioretti, lives and works in Rome, which has been the deciding factor for the La Nazionale center back. The player prefers to live in Rome instead of Milan or Naples, the home of two other clubs who are also interested in his services, in order to be closer to his girlfriend. Next, Astori’s arrival does not mean Mehdi Benatia or Leandro Castan will be sold. In fact, Roma are working on a newly-constructed deal for the Moroccan in order to ward off interest from around Europe, namely Manchester United.

Rudi Garcia has personally requested the services of Astori since he is not comfortable entering the Champions League with only Benatia and Castan at center back. The Frenchman will now decide on whether to keep Rafael Toloi, who is on loan, past this season or if he instead wants to keep Alessio Romagnoli as his fourth center back for next season. Either way, preparations are already being made for next season.
