Match Summary
Rudi Garcia’s men got back to winning ways after their mid-week disappointment against Napoli in the Coppa Italia, as the Giallorossi won in decisive fashion over Mihajlovic’s men at the Stadio Olimpico. The win takes Roma up to 54 points for this season, as the Giallorossi remain firmly in second place in Serie A.

Roma began the match in very wasteful fashion as the Giallorossi were denied on several occasions by Samp’s Junior Costa. Opportunities went astray for several players, namely Mattia Destro, who wasted a number opportunities to put the Giallorossi ahead early in the match. But, the former Siena man finally took his chance and put Roma up 1-0 in the 44th minute, which allowed Garcia’s men to enter the break in the lead.

Roma picked up where they left off as they entered the second half with an attacking mentality. Sampdoria spent nearly the entire last 45 minutes on their heels and created very few opportunities. Miralem Pjanic tucked home a beautiful free-kick in the 54th minute to put Roma up 2-0 and then, just two minutes later, Mattia Destro scored his second goal on the night and put the Giallorossi up 3-0. The goal was Destro’s sixth of the year, which put the youngster at the top of Roma’s scoring charts.

Roma will face Bologna in Emilia-Romagna next Saturday. Roma won the first meeting between the clubs 5-0 at the Stadio Olimpico.
