Nainggolan: “Roma Was The Best Choice For Me”

Belgian midfielder Radja Nainggolan, who was acquired by the Giallorossi early in January, admitted his happiness over his move to Roma and that Roma was “the best choice” for him to further his career.

“After several years in Italy, I took a step forward in my career. I received a great reception here in Rome. I have a great team with great players. I had the pleasure of playing in Italy since the beginning of my career, I have always fought for a starting spot and will continue to do so, as if every Sunday was my first game. I must admit that when I was about to sign with Roma, I had several offers. I had already had contacts with Roma last summer, but nothing came of it. The Giallorossi, however, was the most concrete and for me it was the best choice. I could have gone elsewhere and earn more money, but the project of Roma and the game delivered by the team won me over.”

He continued, “The most important thing right now is to focus on the championship fight. There are still many games and we are 6 points behind the leaders. And we are still in contention for the Italian Cup. With this team we do not abandon any hope.”

The midfielder then went on to comment about his prospects with Belgium for the upcoming World Cup in the summer, “My performances have been good so far. And it’s essential to play well to have a chance of being selected in the 23 that will go to the World Cup. For me, nothing has changed, I am the same person from two months ago. I will continue to improve because I know that I have to do it, and I can do it. Then again, playing in a great team alongside big players will allow me to grow. I do not claim to be a technical player like the others who play in the national team, but there I have quality between my charisma, discipline, and a good tactical versatility. It will be up to the coach to decide, but I think I deserve a place among the 23-man squad for the World Cup.”
