The Details of Juan Iturbe

As reports today surfaced from many Italian outlets, Roma are closing in on the services of on-loan wing player Juan Iturbe, currently playing for Venetian club Hellas Verona. The Argentine player is expected to arrive in June as the Giallorossi push for Champions League play next season.

When Iturbe was sent on loan to Verona in the summer, Porto inserted an optional €15m purchase option in the loan agreement. Verona, who never intented to pay completely for this option, have been searching for a larger club to help them fund the purchase option and agree to a co-ownership deal with them on the player.

Since no partner has been found, Roma will step in and pay the €15m for Verona as well as pay Verona for the right to take up this option. Roma are eager to purchase the player at the option price of €15m because the player has a €60m release clause in his contract with Porto, which would take effect if the player is not bought after this season. Therefore, Roma will likely accept the €15m purchase option on behalf of Verona because getting the player will become much more expensive if this purchase option is declined. Roma would also then compensate Verona for allowing them to takeover this purchase option on behalf of them.
