Candela Sees Important Game Against Catania

Former Roma wingback Vincent Candela, who was also rumored to be close as an assistant manager for Roma with Laurent Blanc at the helm, spoke today regarding the Giallorossi’s upcoming match against Catania.

“Roma and Catania face off at a particular time of the season, ending the year with a positive result is important for both teams. The Giallorossi can not and do not want to lose ground from the league leaders Juventus, the Rossazzurri hope to leave the last place in the standings. For this reason, I expect an intense match and the result is not obvious.”

“Catania has done well in recent years, starting the championship almost always with excellent results. This year things have not turned the right way and there can be an initial difficult moment. The championship is still long and they have the means to recover. Even in Rome in recent seasons, the Elephants have done well often putting the Giallorossi on the ropes. The players of Roma are aware of this and I am sure they don’t underestimate the opponent even though they’re last in the standings.”

“Among the Giallorossi, they will have to deal with some absences. All teams must deals with this, however. Totti and De Rossi are the soul of this team and then the absence of Strootman, a football player in my opinion who is very intelligent from a tactical perspective. Garcia, however, can count on Gervinho and on Totti in the game from the first minute. De Canio will have to be especially careful with these two players, and then make sure they’re marked efficiently. Catania will have to make this game without thinking about the rankings. The reasons are not lacking when playing at the Olimpico. They must be good and practical to take advantage of the counter-attacks that Roma will allow.”

The Frenchman concluded, “A prediction? As a former Roma player I hope they win, but it’s a delicate match. In matches like this you have to be focused until the final whistle. The games before the Christmas break always offer some surprises. The Roma players will have to be very careful against Catania because the anger and determination of the Rossazzurri could prevail over the technical quality of the opponent.”
