Analysis:

Roma were held to a 2-2 draw in Milan as the Giallorossi saw themselves lose ground on Serie A table-toppers Juventus, who now are 5 points ahead of the Romans.

The first 15 minutes saw Roma dominate possession and get several shots on Christian Abbiati’s goal. Beautiful build-up play from Adem Ljajic saw Kevin Strootman pick out Mattia Destro, who was able to tap in his second goal in as many games to give Roma a 1-0 lead.

Roma continued to test Abbiati but Milan stopper saw himself up to the task. Milan, who looked unlikely to get a goal, were able to get their equalizer off a corner kick as Zapata was able to elude Mehdi Benatia and head home the goal, which allowed Milan to enter the break tied up with the Giallorossi.

Just minutes after the break, Gervinho was taken down by newly-introduced goalkeeper Gabriel in the box and Roma were awarded a penalty, which was slotted home by Kevin Strootman to put Roma up 2-1.

After the penalty, Roma found themselves sitting back and inviting Milan’s pressure, another negative aspect which continues to haunt Roma. Milan inevitably made Roma pay for their lackadaisical play as Sulley Muntari was able to find the back of the net and tie the match at 2-2, which ended up being the final result.
