Analysis:

A last-gasp equalizer from Kevin Strootman allowed Roma to grab a vital point in Bergamo against Atalanta. The point puts the Giallorossi joint at the top of Serie A with a game in hand from Juventus.

The first half offered very little in attack for both clubs. Neither Roma nor Atalanta looked eager to venture forward and push the envelope for an opening goal as the teams entered the half deadlocked at 0-0.

After the break, Roma looked likely to break the deadlock as shots from Gervinho and Strootman were safely grasped by Atalanta’s Andrea Consigli. The tide turned dramatically as Morgan De Sanctis made a howler of an error as Davide Brivio’s free-kick hit off the hands of the former Napoli man and Roma found themselves down 1-0.

Rudi Garcia then introduced Adem Ljajic and Miralem Pjanic to the fold and the attacking mind-set of Roma changed significantly. Several opportunities were wasted by the Giallorossi as they looked certain to equalize. A clear hand-ball by Michele Canini was missed by the referees as Roma looked very likely to be handed their first defeat of the season.

As Roma looked to be out of time, Adem Ljajic was able to pick out Kevin Strootman who tapped home the equalizer in the 89th minute to salvage a point for the Giallorossi and maintain their unbeaten streak.
