A.S Roma striker Marco Borriello admitted today to Sky Italia that he was extremely close to a move back to Genoa, where he spent last season on loan.

“I had one foot out of the door in August. That’s because I wanted to continue the excellent form I had with Genoa last term. Meanwhile at Roma, there are certain hierarchies which meant I wouldn’t be able to start games. In the end though, fate wanted me to stay here and I now feel like an integral part of the team.”

The former A.C Milan man is expected to play an important part for the club within the next months, as injuries to Francesco Totti and Gervinho will see the striker relied upon heavily in Garcia’s tridente.

“I’m a different player to Francesco, I have less quality but I can offer the side something different. The objective is to finish in the top five.”

Borriello also commented on rumors that he is approaching an extension with the club and will see his wages reduced, “My agent and I have been in talks with the club. I believe something may soon happen.”
