Benatia Happy With Roma’s Start

Mehdi Benatia has spoken to French radio station RMC Sport and has proclaimed his joy regarding Roma’s historical start to the season. The former Udinese man is part of the back-line that has recorded 7 clean sheets in 8 matches and has conceded only one goal.

“We are going well, we have made an excellent start. The results are on our side and that’s what people want. If you win it’s all right here in Rome. It’s clear that here the pressure is different from Udine. A couple of years ago I came in third with Udinese, this year there is a little more than hope with Rome, but I do not want to speak too soon.”

The Roma defender, whose performances have been praised throughout Europe, also spoke of the effect Rudi Garcia has had on the group: “I spoke with Garcia and immediately there was a good feeling. Last year, the season finale of Roma was a bit chaotic; they lost the Italian Cup against Lazio and I had to wait a bit for the change of manager. But I had given my word to Walter Sabatini. They waited for the formalization of the new coach and then they came back to me.”

The Roma center-back also commented on rumors that he was approached by big-spenders Paris Saint Germain: “An approach from PSG? I was not approached this summer. It happened a while ago, there was still Leonardo, but then the deal had not been done for several reasons. Now they have what they want and I’m happy where I am.”

Lastly, the Moroccan international was asked about A.S Roma captain Francesco Totti: “Technically he is well above average, he is difficult to mark and often you are forced to make fouls. Honestly, when I played against him, he made me angry. When we play together he is immense. To do what he does at his age is very difficult, he is an example of a professional footballer.”
