Outlook:

It’s tough to think of a Derby del Sole where both Roma and Napoli enter the match in top-notch form as the Giallorossi host the Partenopei for Friday evenings fixture at the Olimpico. Roma enter the match at the top of the Serie A table with 21 points while Napoli slightly trail with 19 points.

Roma will look to extend the greatest start in their history, but manager Rudi Garcia is very aware that Napoli pose the greatest threat to date. “It’s a complete team, they are strong and fast attacking on counter-attacks, but they can also keep the ball, it is a team that knows how to do everything, it is still better to play against a team like Napoli. We know that if we win we will have won against a wonderful team.” The Roma boss also admitted that he admires Rafael Benitez, who has also guided Napoli to a fantastic start: “He is a great coach, he is an example, and has won so many trophies, for me he is an example, he is a good coach, an intelligent one, I hope to speak with him a bit before the game and a bit more later.”

Roma will look to contain the dynamism of Napoli’s creative and explosive front-line of Callejon, Hamsik, Insigne, and Higuain. Napoli lead Serie A in goals scored outside the box with 6, most of which were either created or finished off by Marek Hamsik. The Slovak midfielder is near the top of the Serie A scoring charts with 5 goals.

This match is expected to be a battle on the flanks as both Maicon and Dodo look to contain the speed and attacking ability of Lorenzo Insigne and Jose Callejon. Napoli have had few problems putting the ball in the back of the net, yet their back four has looked extremely vulnerable throughout this early part of the season. Napoli have conceded two goals in two of their fixtures thus far this season and the partnership of Albiol and Britos has ofen looked disorganized and slow, which is sure to be a concern for their Spanish tactician.

Roma and Napoli will meet on Friday, October 18 at 8:45 CET.
