Outlook:

Roma travel to Milan to face Internazionale as many tout this as the “first true test” for the Giallorossi. Both clubs are experiencing a Renaissance after underwhelming results last year, where Roma finished 6th and Inter 9th. Roma enter the fixture after dismantling Bologna 5-0 at the Olimpico while Inter are coming off a 1-1 draw in Trieste against Cagliari.

Roma will look to extend the greatest start in their history, but manager Rudi Garcia knows that Inter pose a great threat. “It’s a good team with talented players. Playing at home for them can be an advantage. For me, it does not change anything, I have told my players to always play to win. I hope it will be a good game.” The manager was also hesitant on proclaiming that winning against Inter would have him thinking of the Scudetto: “There are so many difficult matches after Inter. All games are important and worth three points. The team must be familiar with this game and a lot can happen. We are prepared on the mental point of view. We must fight to the fullest and if we do, it may be a good result.”

This match is expected to be a clash of opposing tactics. While Roma prefer a balanced game and lots of possession, Inter prefer a 3 man defense along with quick, counter-attacking football, the signature of Walter Mazzarri. Inter have adapted quickly to Mazzarri, as they are behind only Roma in goals scored this season with most of their goals coming from the counter-attack. Roma and Inter have both created 73 scoring opportunities thus far and it is expected that this match will be open with plenty of chances for both teams.

The Giallorossi will meet the Nerazzurri at the San Siro at 8:45 CET on Saturday, 5 October.
