Roma have avenged their Coppa Italia nightmares and continued their incredible run in Serie A. Roma remain at the top of the table after their 2-0 victory over Lazio in the Derby della Capitale.

The first half saw very few chances. Lazio seemed the more dangerous team as they were able to get the ball into the box on several occasions but target man, Miroslav Klose, could not connect. Roma’s best opportunity of the opening half came from via a Totti free-kick into the box; the ball was met in the air by Gervinho but he was not able to finish on the header.

As the second half started, the match was much more open. Lazio saw opportunities go astray as they continued to target German international Miroslav Klose. As Adem Ljajic was introduced for Alessandro Florenzi, Roma became the aggressors of the match. Shots from Maicon and Ljajic were not able to get by Marchetti, but Roma finally made the breakthrough in the 63rd minute through a Balzaretti goal off of a corner.

Roma continued to control the game and there was no doubt of the result when newly introduced Andre Dias was sent off in the 82nd minute after bringing down Totti when the captain was one on one with the keeper. Adem Ljajic provided the icing on the cake with an injury time penalty to put Roma up 2-0.

Roma will take on Sampdoria on Wednesday in their first mid-week fixture of the season.
