LAZIO (4-4-1-1) Marchetti; Konko, Cana, Ciani, Cavanda; Gonzalez, Onazi, Hernanes, Lulic; Candreva; Klose

Outlook:

Roma head into the first bout of the Derby della Capitale joint top of the Serie A table. The Giallorossi are coming off a decisive 3-1 victory at Parma while Lazio enter the fixture after a mid-week victory over Legia Warsaw.

Roma look to avenge their 1-0 defeat to Lazio in last May’s Coppa Italia final, which knocked Roma out of European play for the second year in a row. After signing his new two year contract, captain Francesco Totti had some words regarding the Derby and maintained that this fixture has nothing to do with revenge. “We’re no longer thinking of the past. What happened in May is behind us. We know it’s going to be a hard game, but we know the right way to face it. With this spirit, we can say a thing or two this season.”

Lazio will look to continue their their good form after last weekend’s 3-0 win over Chievo and Thursday’s 1-0 victory over Legia Warsaw. There has, however, been some turmoil at the club as fan’s protested the opening 15 minutes against Chievo in protest over the club’s lack of transfer activity.

Many expect this match to be highly contested on the flanks. Roma will look to contain the width of Lazio who prefer to use Candreva/Gonzalez and Lulic as their wingers. Roma’s fullbacks (Maicon on the right and Federico Balzaretti on the left) are expected to have their hands full for the entire match. Coming off an extremely poor showing versus Parma, Federico Balzaretti should expect to be targeted by Vladimir Petković’s men, who like to use a direct approach on goal by feeding their lone striker Miroslav Klose.

Roma and Lazio will meet at 3:00 CET at the Stadio Olimpico.
