Analysis:

Roma continued their winning ways with a convincing 3-0 win over newly promoted Hellas Verona. Roma are now, along with Napoli, at the top of the Serie A table heading into the international break. Rudi Garcia’s side continued to impress both offensively and defensively, recording a second consecutive clean sheet.

The first half saw Roma waste their goalscoring opportunities as both Alessandro Florenzi and Kevin Strootman had one on one chances against the goalkeeper but were unable to capitalize. Daniele De Rossi attempted several long range shots but he was unable to find the back of the net. The first half saw Roma unable to create much of anything in the final third of the pitch. Hellas Verona’s lone goalscoring opportunity came just before half time as a Luca Toni header swerved past the post.

Like last week’s fixture vs. Livorno, Roma came out with a much different mindset in the second half. Roma immediately attacked Hellas Verona out wide and would later be rewarded. After seven minutes, Adem Ljajic was introduced, marking his debut for the Giallorossi. Just after the introduction of the Serbian, Roma were finally rewarded when Maicon’s cross was deflected in by Fabrizio Cacciatore, putting Roma up 1-0. Just minutes later, Miralem Pjanic possibly scored Roma’s goal of the season as the Bosnian international chipped the goalkeeper from outside the area and put the Giallorossi ahead 2-0. As Roma continued to control the match, they saw their replacement for Erik Lamela open his account on his debut with a sublime shot from just outside the box, which made the score 3-0. Hellas Verona would later come close to a consolation goal on a corner kick, but the ball was cleared on the goal line by Kevin Strootman, who also made his debut for the Giallorossi.

Roma now go into the international break with 6 points from their first two matches. Their next fixture will be played on 15 September at Parma.
