Roma’s New Stopper?
- Updated: July 17, 2013
Several outlets, including Italian transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio, have confirmed that AS Roma are close to making Morgan De Sanctis their new number one goalkeeper. With the arrival of Rafael Benetiz and his quick purchase of Rafael Cabral of Santos along with the inevitable arrival of Julio Cesar from QPR, De Sanctis is widely expected to be free to leave the Naples based club and join the Giallorossi.
De Sanctis, 35, has been with Napoli since 2009 and has positioned himself as one of the better goalkeepers in Serie A. He lead Napoli to a 2nd place finish and the Champions League group stage during the past season and will look to fill the void left by Maarten Stekelenburg.
